The thing I find myself most scared of sharing is the thing I say I live my life by.

So, I don't care what mood I'm, I will always been in the mood for The Veronicas. Their music makes me have a weird combination of feelings: mad/excited/jumpy, anxious/dancy/happy. It's a great feeling, and makes my adrenaline go go go :)

Ok, so I just got back from our BSM meeting, and wow. Molly and I were talking together as partners after the big group share time about how that God was preparing us all before time for this word from him.
--Richard talked about how if we really lived like Christ everyday, something that we hear about all the time that it becomes so cliche, then we wouldn't have to host things like block parties in order to reach out to people. It's the little things each day really count like talking and sharing Jesus' love with someone you don't know. How many times do you come across a stranger? Can you say hello opportunity? God is pleased by our little works, there's no need for a huge display--just love and share on a daily basis.
--Ciera talked about how that we don't speak the name of Jesus enough. Like, let's be intentional when we are ministering. That one really kinda hit me because when I tutor, sometimes I feel like, 'well...i'm just tutoring.'" There's so much more than that! I should be teaching Jesus' love to these little kids. The thing I find myself most scared of sharing is the thing I say I live my life by. I find myself realizing that that really doesn't make a whole lot of sense...Plus, they're little kids, and why should I be afraid of that? I am always so set on my life being an example of love that I forget to share HIS love. I also think that Satan is terrible for making me feel like I'm not good enough to present the gospel. There's this fear in my little heart and mind that my methods and words and prayers aren't adequate, and I'm so worried that I'm gonna mess it up, and my one chance to minister will have just gone out the window! So what--that's when we pick ourselves up, be consistent and remember that if all else fails, a seed is sown. Of course, I'm having this self-revelation and tomorrow chances are I won't do anything about it. Jesus help me to live what I say I live and to walk in the ways that you would have me! Help me to love the way you do, to speak in wisdom and in truth, and to not fear the life I profess!
--Katie talked about how that because HPU has a stigma of being so churchy, and having so many bible studies and opportunities to share Jesus and the word, that when it comes time to talk about it outside of those moments, we feel so cheesy or cliche. It's as if maybe I'm embarrassed to bring it up for conversation at lunch as normally as I would a story that happened the day before. How did I let myself fall in that trap? If I'm too chicken to speak the name of Jesus with my closest friends, or to even pray in front of them, or bring up spiritual struggles for accountability, then how am I ever going to be bold enough to make those things conversation for strangers who need Jesus? Jesus is and never should be a questioned topic of choice; just talk.
--Laura talked about trusting God more, and although her circumstances are quite different, I find myself dealing with the same things on a daily basis. She also mentioned God slowly breaking down walls in her heart, and then all of these thoughts started running through my mind. I remembered this song that Jimmy Needham sang at HPU Fest called 'Hurricane', and when he spoke about the meaning of that song I felt and understood such truth.

I need You like a hurricane
Thunder crashing, wind and rain
To tear my walls down
I’m only Yours now
I need you like a burning flame
A wild fire untamed
To burn these walls down
I’m only Yours now
I’m only Yours now

I am Yours and You are mine
You know far better than I
And if destruction’s what I need
Then I’ll receive it Lord from Thee
Yes, I’ll receive it Lord from Thee

Sometimes what I really need is to be broken completely, for God to rip me to pieces, hurt my feelings, leave me raw to the things He wants to reveal in my life. I get into this little routine of seeing the same people, having the same daily experiences, going to work, and just being on auto-pilot. I forget about being vulnerable and instead day by day the wall around my heart gets higher and higher until there's nothing I feel. Now, granted I'm never heartless, but you catch my drift. I want to be broken for Christ. I want to feel.

--Another thing that I've really really been thinking about is prayer. As of late, yes this is another fear of mine, I've started letting myself get the idea that I'm praying incorrectly and that I'm not saying the right things, and that I sound stupid, uneducated, and not genuine. Sometimes I really don't have the 'heart set' for a particular prayer and I feel like someone else would do a better job, but in the last month or so, I feel that way about every prayer. I find myself worrying about it when I say prayers in the morning, or before bed, or when someone pops into my head in the middle of the day. Today and last Thursday when I prayed over Liz and Phil's engagement, I was reminded that there is no 'right' way to pray. If I stumble over my words or I am at a loss for them, so what?? Alisha, just talk to Jesus. He is my Creator and my maker; He knows my thoughts and my heart and what I feel I need to say. It is of no matter how it comes from my mouth. Stop worrying!

--I guess my challenge to myself is make more time to speak Jesus' name with the people I love and I spend time with. I've got to start somewhere, there has to be some foundational ground. And here's another thing I just thought of. They always say that here at HPU we have our little Christian bubble, and we are safe here--we don't branch out to the real world and preach Christ. Well...for being so safe and comfortable, we sure aren't that comfortable with keeping each other challenged and accountable. You should never feel comfortable or happy with where you are, or at least I think. You should always yearn for more and not be complacent or satisfied with a certain benchmark.

That's an awful lot of stream of conscious for one night, but oddly enough I feel wonderful now. There was a lot on my chest and I needed to get it out. Sometimes I don't even know what I'm writing, and yet it just flows. I think that what I love so much about the human mind, about typing, and blank pages on which to write. I love handwriting, and the complexities of the curves and lines and uniqueness of each stroke for each person out there. But I do prefer typing to it because my hand doesn't work as quickly as my mind does. Also, I may seem like a creep, but tonight at the meeting where we were all set up in a big circle I couldn't help but just stare at everyone and take in all their features and then do the same for the next. Everyone is SO completely different. I love it. Creation and life is such an incredibly beautiful and fascinating thing.

miserable monday

So today is crazy only because tomorrow requires that of me.
Let me lay this out for you: tomorrow consists of a speech, a math test, and a geography test. those are all really big things. The only one I'm scared about is the geography one, and man, that one is gonna be an absolute killer. It really doesn't help that I also have work from 630 till 930 tonight, and then directly after that I have our BSM meeting. Thanks Monday for being so typical--it was so considerate of you.
So, maybe you could keep me in your prayers?

A few other things: this week is inauguration week at HPU; we're introducing the FINALLY restored MIMS auditorium and Phelps building, and our new HPU president, Dr. Ellis. super! Anyway, I am excused from class on Thursday from 9-1230 to be a part of the ceremony. Here is the downside: ehem *I have to play with the band instead of being a ribbon cutter for the new buildings* SUCK. Let me ask you this, would you rather play a hymn and the national anthem on your clarinet or cut the ribbon at a pretty big ceremony in front of everyone and their mother? Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks a lot band, thanks a lot.

Rho banquet is this Friday and Saturday, and I'm really excited, mostly because Joe don is coming to Texas just for me! We are going to have our event at the Driskill hotel in Austin, so things will be pretty classy, and after that mess, on Saturday we are going to Booker park to hang out for the afternoon :)

At 3pm on Saturday Joe will fly back to Virginia, and I will go to Georgetown to resume my Band Tour duties. Suck. I really do hate band tour. What about riding on a bus for 4 days, sleeping in hotels, and playing my clarinet more than once a day is fun? nothing. I hate band tour. ugh.

well i need to study now. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

just one of those days

pledging event for the girls last night. i love being a member now is all i have to say about that. it was a really fun, but really long evening for us all. i went to be around 230, woke up at 4 and puked my guts, only to wake up again at 6 and have another event this morning at 630. after all that business i crashed until 8, got up bsed my way through the 2nd half of my speech outline, went to class, got a good review on it and now i don't have to go to class on thursday! yay :B

well i kill too much time watching Glozell vids and wasting time on peopleofwalmart.com
that website kills me everytime. it's definitely an all time favorite, and if you've never been, please check it out. please.  my afternoon proceeds to lunch, and then math class where i find out that in my geography class i have 2 online quizzes due by 630 tonight and we have a map quiz to top that off. Most difficult quizzes ever; can you say 60, 68, and then an 88 on my map quiz. i used to love that class with weatherby; he loved it so much, and in turn i did too. i really miss him, but i know he's enjoying himself in heaven :) miss you!

after that, we voted on pledges. let's same i'm not on the same page as everyone else. it's whatever. but then i got back to my room feeling like -$100 at this point. (tired, cramping, exhausted physically and mentally, and i'm in a weird mood) so stupid.

but on the bright side, the best part of my day was my one on one with kate b. plus she was super sweet and gave me some pretty awesome owl earring that i'm gonna wear tomorrow!

29 March, 2010

This day has been super. I crashed hard yesterday in work attire and everything at 1130 and I successfully woke up at 630 this morning, took a piping hot shower, got dressed, got my crap together, and headed to the caf to have some quiet time and breakfast. I got a baby baby bowl of yogurt and granola, a boiled egg, and a biscuit with sausage, skim milk, and water. super. I had time to read my devotional which was about praying, and lately I've been questioning how to pray and if what I'm praying for is stupid or allowed-how retarded of me, but I will say, when you neglect something for so long, you doubt yourself. To say the least, I've been putting my relationship with Christ on the back burner, and life has sucked. I want quiet time in the morning to to become a habit. I went to church last night, and I was totally out of it; I didn't get anything out of it, and I have no one to blame but yours truly. I don't know what's wrong with me! I've missed tutoring since spring break- that's like 3 weeks? gross. That's not commitment to the kids, and that doesn't reflect well on me either.
I got to class, and I was so alert and awake for once!

Anyway, I found out like 10 minutes ago that Dr. Weatherby just passed away. This really breaks my heart.
he was such a wonderful professor, told such interesting stories, didn't give a crap about what anybody though. He had traveled all over the world, taught at Cambridge for Pete's sake, and has a giant metal giraffe in his backyard. My all time favorite line would be, "all you can do in the winter is drink and raise hell". you will be missed sir.

27 March, 2010

life always goes too fast. make the best of it.

firstly, what part about i have severe allergies means it's okay to spray lots of perfume in my tiny breathing quarters?

lately i just want people to know that i unconditionally care, that i will be there for them and that i'm constant in what i say. i know that seems so silly, but i want to be someone that they can truly count on for anything, cause sometimes in life, that's what we really need. To know that someone out there will really be there by your side if they say they will, they will be praying for you if they say they will, that if you have something to say that they are listening intently to what you have to say. i just want to be love.

also, trying to write that last paragraph while listening to a really upbeat praise song was really difficult.

so on monday i woke up with this random case of a sore/tickly throat, and my eyes were red and puffy. i am never sick; i drink tons of water, exercise daily, eat healthy, and get decent sleep. well since spring i lost all sleep, and every night ended at 2:30 in the morning. to say the least, my body completely shut down and this gross cold/flu is what i got stuck with. I really hate being sick because when something like going to sleep turns into something bittersweet, you know it's bad. I love sleeping when i'm sick, but when i wake up i feel like crap. my lips are chapped, tongue is dry, i cant breathe, i'm drooling, and coughing ensues. hopefully this ends sooner than later.

i'm done whining. this past week doesn't even register in my memory because it went too fast.

  • i have a new geography teacher
  • work was cancelled twice
  • i made a 74 on my art test because i missed the last 20 pt question. i read it incorrectly. gay. i would have made a 94.
  • crying throughout my entire diabetes speech
  • pledge auction
  • getting tons of goodies from work!
  • spending a lovely afternoon with kate
  • music night at the hub
  • sneak peak at vinyl club's set for fest
  • bake sale
  • math let out early after only 20 minutes
  • a tp adventure planned for later today :)
  • free tickets to see Alice in Wonderland for filling out a survey that consisted of either, "N/A or no child"
  • delicious panini sammies from fams
  • i'm taking watercolor with kate next year
overall it's been a pleasant week, but i just wish i wasn't as sick. i can't believe that this coming week is the last week of pledging, followed by easter break,  fest, and then banquet, and the next day is band tour and then like 1 week later is finals and then schooooooools outttttttttttttt! summertime. it's all happening too quickly and i'll no longer be a sophomore.
life always goes too fast. make the best of it.

19 March, 2010

running on nothing

it's spring sing week here at HPU.
that's really all that needs to be said; you understand everything that entails.

  • crazy long rehearsals
  • practice after the rehearsals
  • VERY LITTLE SLEEP
  • stress
  • trying to find time to cram homework in
  • pledging is still going on
  • learning dances and lines
  • VERY LITTLE SLEEP
to say the least, my life is chaotic and i'm running low on energy and patience all together.

so mom calls today about financial aid; last thing i even wanna think about. any time i even walk into that building i get a knot in my throat and i think i'm gonna start bawling. never fails. i hate money so much. it's the root of everything bad in my life. stress, worry, acne. life would be so much better without money.

i don't wanna think about anything right now.

yesterday joe don found out he may not even be able to make it to Rho banquet now. suck. Now i'm dateless, but more importantly, i haven't seen him since christmas, and now i'll have to wait until this summer, and that's the all time worst. i miss my best friend.

i'm ready for this week to be over. i'm ready for the summer, and to leave brownwood for a while, and to just be home. i'm not sure. i just well, i'm tired physically, mentally, spiritually. everything. sometimes i feel like i'm falling apart, and as soon as i get one part back in order the next comes loose and before i know it i'm broken.
i'll finish this later. i'm a mess, and my life is always on fast forward--no time to ever catch up.
